Division 4. Mission and objectives

Mission

The mission of Division 4 is to serve as an international platform that promotes discussions and cooperative actions between soil scientists, our colleagues in other scientific disciplines, policy-makers, and concerned citizens on the role of soils in sustaining society and the environment.

Objectives

	To improve the understanding by the global community of the importance of soils to sustainable land use and the quality of our environment
	To promote interdisciplinary research, education, and outreach between soil scientists and colleagues in other disciplines on current and future issues linked to soil and environmental quality, soil productivity and land degradation, food security and human health
	To provide a communication forum for soil scientists to better understand and discuss the needs and concerns of society for sustainable soil and land use and to encourage a historical and philosophical perspective in the approach of their studies
