Commission 4.5. History, philosophy, and sociology of

Mission
The mission of Commission 4,5 is to help soil scientists,
other earth science disciplines and members of the global
community concerned with soil resources become aware of
how soil science knowledge developed and how the needs of
society directed soil studies.
Objectives

To explore and develop the background
of the history, philosophy and sociology of soil science |

To cooperate internationally with other
IUSS commissions, national soil science societies, and
commissions of scientific societies with similar interests
in encouraging a historical approach to the study of
soil |

To provide opportunities through joint
workshops, writing and lectures to further our understanding
of how soil science knowledge developed |

|
To provide opportunities for the disciplines
of history, philosophy and sociology to bring the insights
and methods of their disciplines to the important soils
questions facing society |

To provide a forum for concerned members
of the global community to explore the heritage and
cultural important of soil to society |
