Thorsten Behrens is based
in the University of Tübingen .Dr. rer. nat, Dipl.-Ing.
agr. He has a PhD in soil science, geographic
information systems and physical geography in 2003.
After working at the institute of Soil Science and Soil
Conservation and the Institute of Biometrics and
Populationgenetics at Justus-Liebig-University in
Giessen, he was a post-doctoral researcher at the
Institute of Physical Geography and Soil Science at
Friedrich-Schiller-University in Jena and is now a
scientific assistant at the Institute of Geography at
Eberhardt-Karls-University in Tuebingen. He is an active
member of commission 1.5 of the IUSS "Pedometrics" and
the International Working Group on Digital Soil Mapping
(WG-DSM) of the IUSS. His main research focuses on the
application of mathematical and statistical techniques,
i.e. data mining and machine learning in soil attribute
and soil class prediction as well as soil-hydrology.
Further important research topics comprise pedodiversity
and landscape ecology. Thorsten Behrens was the Chairman
of the organizing committee of Pedometrics 2007, held in
Tübingen, Germany. As Pedometrics and Digital Soil
Mapping are his main research fields since many years,
he is willing to further contribute to the Pedometrics
community and stand for Chair of the Commission.
