Prof. Dr. Jon Chorover is a professor
in the Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science at the
University of Arizona where he leads a research and teaching program
in soil chemistry and biogeochemistry. He received a B.S. in
Environmental Science from the University of Michigan (1983), and
then an M.S. in Forest Science (1988) and a Ph.D. in Soil
Science/Chemistry (1993) from University of California, Berkeley. He
received a US NSF International Postdoctoral Fellowship to work in
the Department of Chemistry at University of Geneva, Switzerland
(1994-1995) and was then appointed Assistant and Associate Professor
of Environmental Soil Chemistry in the Department of Crop and Soil
Science at the Pennsylvania State University (1995-2001). He moved
to the University of Arizona in 2001. Dr. Chorover was in 2007 a
visiting professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Swiss
Federal Institute for Technology (ETH) in Zurich, was Associate
Editor, Soil Chemistry Division (S-2) for the Soil Science Society
of America Journal from 1999-2005, and is now Joint Editor-in-Chief
of Geoderma (A Global Journal of Soil Science). He currently
serves as Chair of the Soils and Environmental Quality Division
(S-11) of the Soil Science Society of America. He is working with
interdisciplinary and international working groups to establish a
prominent place for soil chemistry in the broader realm of
environmental and earth sciences seeking to achieve the goal of an
integrated understanding of earth surface processes. Dr. Chorover's
specific scientific interests relate to how mineral-organic
interactions influence the weathering of soils and the speciation of
pollutants. His experimental approach employs a wide range of
macroscopic to molecular-scale techniques to probe the coupled
processes that control soil chemical dynamics. He is author or
co-author of over 60 scientific journal publications. Additional
