Rainer Horn is currently Professor for
Soil Science (Chair) at Institute of Plant Nutrition and Soil
Science, Christian Albrechts University zu Kiel, 24118 Kiel ,
Olshausenstr. 40 Germany. He works in the broad area of Soil
Physics: soil mechanics: stress strain effects in structured soils,
soil structure effects, chemical as well as hydraulic processes in
structured soils, unsaturated 3 dimensional flow and transport
processes, waste deposit management capping systems, soil tillage
effects on soil properties, soil hydraulic properties, chemical and
biological aspects of soil aggregates. He completed his doctorate
with Professor Dr. K.H. Hartge at the University of Hannover in 1976
and his habilitation at the University of Berlin (Advisor Professor
Dr. H.P. Blume) in 1981. 1982- 1987 he was Professor for Soil
Science University Bayreuth; from 1988- 1998 Professor for Soil
Science and Soil Protection (C3) Christian Albrechts University Kiel
and since October 1998 Professor for Soil Science (Chair C4) at the
Institute for Plant Nutrition and Science, Christian Albrechts
University Kiel. He is a Honorary of Soil Science Society of Romania
andRomanian Academy of agriculture and forestry science. In 2005 he
was made a Fellow of the American Soil Science Society and in 2006 a
Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy. He has actively
collaborated with soil scientists around the world including :
1986/87, 2003:Visiting Research Scientist CSIRO, Australia; 2003
University of Queensland, Australia ; 1992, 98, 99, 2001, 2002,2003,
2004,2006: Visiting Research Scientist Academia Sinica, China; 1998:
Visiting Research Scientist National Soil Dynamic Lab. Auburn, USA,
1994, 1995,1999, 2000 Instituto Sciencias do Suelos, Valdivia,
Chile; 2004, 2005 University Santa Maria, Brasil. He has published
more than 200 papers in reviewed journals, 58 bookchapters, and 12
books apart from more than 70 unreviewed papers and reports. For
