Bernd Lennartz

From 1988/1990 – Bernd Lennartz was Scientist at the Institute of Water Management and Landscape Ecology, University Kiel. Studies about solute movement in soils and aquifers. 1991 - Cornell University, Ithaca, NY; USA , Prof. Wagenet and Dr. Hutson, studies on modeling reactive and non-reactive solute movement, and University of Florida, Gainesville, Prof. Rao; about multi-process-non equilibrium models. 1992 - PhD on Transport of selected pesticides in saturated and unsaturated soils, University Kiel. 1992 - 1995 Private consultant on hazardous waste disposal, remediation of contaminated soils, and groundwater aquifers. 1992 - 1995 - Senior Scientist at the Institute of Water Management and Landscape Ecology, University Kiel, studies on solute losses from tile drained field plots with respect to groundwater contamination.1995/96 Senior Scientist, Science du Sol, I.N.R.A., Montpellier, France, project: Pesticide movement to surface waters in small agricultural catchments.
1999 Habilitation (2nd thesis): ‘Spatial and temporal variability of solute transport characteristics in soils’, University Kiel. 2000 Full professor for Soil Physics and Natural Resources Conservation, University Rostock 200/2004 Head of Department ‘Land Management and Environmental Protection’ (Landeskultur und Umweltschutz)
Activities: As vice-chair of the commission 3.2 Soil and Water Conservation I will put artificial drainage and related diffusive pollution problems as number 1 issue, and counter measures such as drainage management or constructed wetlands for the treatment of polluted drainage water on the agenda. As a second important topic, I will announce ‘water saving strategies for paddy landscapes’.
First suggestion for a workshop would be ‘Artificial Drainage and Diffuse Pollution of Surface Water Bodies’.
