A-Zing Zhu

 

A-Xing Zhu is Professor of Geography, University of Wisconsin-Madison and adjunct professor at the Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Ph.D., 1994, University of Toronto. His speciality is in GIS/RS, artificial intelligence/fuzzy logic methods and their application in digital soil mapping; and he has been working in digital soil mapping for the past 15 years, producing over 40 research articles. He developed the SoLIM (Soil Landscape Inference Model) methodology. He has made many contributions to the wider academic community, for example as Lead writer of the research priority white paper on Uncertainty in Spatial Data and GIS Analysis (for University Consortium for Geographic Information Science); organizer of a number of special session on digital soil mapping at the professional society annual meetings (such as International Fuzzy Systems Association, Association of American Geographers); Vice President of CPGIS (Chinese Professional in GIS (abroad))(2001-2002); President of CPGIS (2003-2004); His accomplishments and extensive experience in digital soil mapping, and extensive international connections will help him well as a Vice Chair of the Pedometrics Commission.
